Love and the Trickster

I’m so behind on posting about work, but this one has kind of a funny story.

I had a coyote dream. It was actually a half man/half coyote guy and it wasn’t a sexy dream at all, so don’t get too excited.

It wasn’t just a dream that made me paint this though. I think it was around valentines day? That was a while ago, but like I said, I’m behind on posting about work.

Anyway … ok, I pull these animal oracle cards a lot. Not for ideas for paintings, but a lot of times they have some insight about whatever is currently happening in my life. I also do tarot, but I love animal oracle cards. I pulled the coyote card. It says it reminds you to laugh at unexpected twists. Some cultures consider coyote to be tricksters.

Coyotes are incredibly resourceful wild animals, but they’re also playful and kind of goofy. We live with them all over here in Corrales. They really do seem to just disappear into the sage. POOF People have a love/hate relationship with them. I love them. Yes, we have lost chickens to them. It was also our fault for forgetting to shut the door on Fort Chix the night before. I like free food too, you know?

So I pulled the card and it made me laugh about some things that were going on for me at the time. That’s not so strange.

Not too long after that I had the dream about the half man/half coyote. He had a coyote head and the body of a man. I’m serious, it was not a sexy dream. It was super weird though! It was like he was a pet or companion. He had a dog bed next to my bed and I was petting his head. hahaha I woke up like what the actual F.

That was strange, but I do have bizarre dreams pretty frequently. It got weirder, because a coyote on my road walked down the middle of the road all slow in front of my car and then instead of poofing into the sage, it cut into a driveway and stopped. I stopped the car and rolled the window down and we just looked at each other.

The next day THREE coyotes went across the road in front of my car on our road. One after the other in a line. I had to stop again.

And then I was on TikTok and some account that posts AI images popped up with an image of A HALF COYOTE HALF MAN god. He looked so much like the guy in my dream. I kind of freaked out.

My reaction to all of this was FINE I WILL PAINT A COYOTE. hahaha

So there you have it. Sometimes I decide to paint an animal and sometimes I’m literally pestered until I give in.

He’s a good coyote. I love him. Actually one of my favorite paintings ever. Hope you enjoy the pink and red as much as I do.
