Messy Raven: A gallery and community centered space to create and learn

What is Messy Raven?

Part gallery space and part Corrales (and beyond) community space. Want to teach a skill? Want to learn a skill? Need a spot to meet your language group? Want to have an art popup? You get the idea.

Birthed in my previous space on Corrales Rd as a baby idea that didn’t quite work in that spot. We wanted a community hang out space with art workshops and other events. That location couldn’t hold that idea and now the idea has grown.

❋ About

I have quietly volunteered my time to a lot of events and organizations in Corrales and I’ve learned two important things:

Corrales needs more places to gather for sharing/learning.

I’m not happy or fulfilled unless I’m being of service in some way.

❋ Community

It takes a village.

Our community has a lot of knowledge and now more than ever, we need to pull together to see how we can support each other and learn from each other.

This isn’t limited to art, even though I am an artist.

Personally, I’m an artist but I’m also a former geochemist, a gardener, a language learner, a knitter, a photographer, a community organizer, a mom, a wildlife rescue organization volunteer, and a healer.

Everyone I talk to has hidden skills and things they love to do. Want to teach something? Let’s do it.

❋ Access to Skills

I’m fully aware this is a wild time to open another space. But this is why it’s the right time.

My art will be in there. That’s a way to support me so I can support you. I have some fun ideas in the works and will hold classes of my own too.

You can teach a workshop.

You can show your art.

Co-creating time? Come work with me.

There are tables and chairs to work at and paper to cover the floor. There’s a calendar of events. Let’s create and share.

I’m going with the flow a bit and I’m sure it will evolve and take shape as it grows.

How do group meetings work?

Join a group or host a group meeting

As a community centered space, I would like to offer this on a ‘donate what you feel to support the space’ or ‘make a purchase while you’re there to support me’ basis. (Gotta pay that rent to keep this thing going)

Current and developing groups
• Lino cut print club

• Forest Friday - making woodland creatures, mushrooms, etc, using materials of your choice

• Digital art draw together - Age 12+ - Do you make digital art, draw original characters, or webtoons? Let’s draw together and share tips on Procreate or whichever app you use. Contact me with interest because I’d like to find a time and get this one going ASAP

• Tarot art - Have you ever thought about drawing your own deck? We could meet and study one card at a time to build tarot decks in our own styles.

10 people max

Have a group you’d like to meet in Corrales?

Send me a message to get on the calendar.

If the calendar is open, then you can schedule to meet here. I’m thinking knitting, writing, garden planning, language clubs, etc.

Work with me ... or at the same time as me

Let’s work together

Sometimes we just want to work with someone else.

Work next to me
I’m in there working during space hours. You’re welcome to come hang out and work too.

If you have my number you can text me to see if anything else is scheduled and just come on by.

Why would I do all of this?

I’m fortunate in that I have always felt supported in my creative pursuits. I’d like to pay it forward by building a support network for other creatives. I don’t know what it will ultimately look like but I’m happy to leap and see where it goes:

• Creative teens who need a space/outlet
• Creative groups or ideas that need a space to meet
• Local artists who want to get out of their own space for a day and be kind of social but still get work done.

Eventually I would like to have some supplies and maybe an xTool or something available for time rental.

If you found this and you just want to support the idea because you’re amazing and like to give to creative things, I also graciously accept support via Venmo.
